Hello Shiva

What would Cause a Tractor to Run Hot?

Tractor is essential for farmers and farming. It is a machine in which many types of problems arise. And overheating is one of them.

So here we are giving some reasons for overheating in the tractor. Without any delay, let’s get started!

  1. Radiator Issues

The radiator is an essential part of an engine’s efficient working. It gives clean air to the engine. Air cleaners system in tractors gives them maximum cleaning efficiency. Low and unclean performing radiators are the main cause of overheating.

  • Low Coolant

Before driving the tractor, you have to check the tractor coolant system because it allows the engine to cool. Before starting a tractor engine, you always check the coolant level. You have to ensure that extra coolant is already in your system. Because absence of coolant in the engine may burden your budget.

  • Coolant Hose Blocked

Due to the dirty hose, your tractor may overheat even if you added Coolant. It is continuously run through the radiator and engine to keep it cool. hence, your tractor’s coolant hose must be clean and dust-free.

  • Thermometer Malfunction

Engine temperature is measured with a thermometer. But sometimes the thermometer can cause the engine to fail. Because of a thermometer malfunction, you are unable to know the temperature of the tractor. And due to running in disastrous conditions, your tractor may get hot. You will not be able to find it and the engine will fail. So before driving the tractor, you have to check the thermostat. You can test by removing the thermostat from the tractor and placing it in boiled water and checking the readings. If the temperature is not increasing, it means that the time has come to replace the thermostat.

  • Engine Oil Level Low

Due to the friction the tractor engine generates a lot of heat. Engine oil helps to lubricate all engine working parts, which results in the engine’s cooling. Low levels of engine oil produce excess heat and also damage major engine parts.

  • Damaged Water Pump

Water pumps also play a very important role in engine cooling systems. This helps to spread cooling. A damaged water pump can cause the engine to overheat because it cannot pump any coolant.

  • Damaged Head Gasket

The engine block and cylinder head are held together by a gasket. Oil and coolant are added due to the damaged gasket. As a result, the engine overheats. A mixture of coolant and oil causes major damage to the engine as the coolant system is filled with oil. So for continued use of a tractor, you may have to reinstall the entire engine. This causes spending.

  • The wrong Coolant

Every engine producer uses a different type of Coolant. So it is vital to choose the right Coolant, which is approved by the main manufacturer. Sometimes overheating problems might occur in the engine due to the use of the wrong Coolant.

  • Malfunctioning Engine Temperature Gauge

The engine temperature gauge is placed on the tractor dashboard and informs the driver about the engine temperature. If this gauge is not working properly, it causes serious damage to the engine. Because the driver will not be aware of the engine temperature and continuous use, which leads to heavy losses.

  1. Overloading

To protect your tractor from overheating, you have to choose to implement according to tractor horsepower. Because the wrong equipment will pull more power and make the engine hotter, another major reason for engine overheating is to use a tractor in lower gears for light work.

Inner Systems of a Tractor

Some special systems are showing below with details. Check out below.

  • Tractor Engine

The engine is the heart of any farm tractor. In the market, many types and sizes of engines are available. Many tractor manufacturers are available in India, which have their engines such as Mahindra tractor, Sonalika tractor, Swaraj tractor, etc.

The tractor mainly consists of four-stroke engines, but some of them come with two-stroke diesel engines. Engines specially manufactured for a high load factor, which is near about 80-90% brake hp. They supply 1-4 cylinders.

  • Transmission system

The transmission system is mainly used to transmit power from the engines to PTO, hydraulic pumps, wheels, and other auxiliaries. Many types of transmission systems are available in a tractor, such as constant mesh, synchromesh, powershift, sliding mesh, etc. The constant mesh, synchromesh, and sliding mesh are manual transmission systems because gears are only fitted with manual efforts.

  • Lubricating system

The lubricating system is used to reduce friction, power loss, and wear. Most tractors are manufactured to maintain speeds and higher loads. That is why they consist of lubricating technology. The engines of a tractor are designed with an internal pressurized system of lubrication. Most lubricated parts such as transmission, engine, brake system, and hydraulic used a special type of oil called universal tractor oil.

  • Hydraulic system

The hydraulic system is essential for high duty tractor operations and enhances performance. The hydraulic system is divided into three systems, the Nudging system, the Automatic draft control system, and the Automatic position control system.

With the help of hydraulic systems, farmers can control the equipment according to their work. Another great benefit of hydraulics is hydrostatic power steering. Comfort is the most important thing for long-term work, so tractor manufacturers build tractors with power steering.
